Nifty.

I like the game, it's one of those things I can enjoy without a long loading time, huge music, or anything. Just a simple little distraction. :)

Nice.

Finally, a decent tutorial! I've had problems finding good tutorials. I already knew how to do most of this, but it's nice to teach newbies.. maybe you could teach them another type of game as well? You can make bullets go away by making the bullet holes a movie clip, their animation just be the alpha decreasing to 0, then stopping on the last frame. Not perfect, but it'll work.

jjproductions responds:

Thanks a lot. That's a good idea for the bullet holes I'll do that now.

Eh.

Taking someone's game and explaining how it was made (half-assed, too) really doesn't qualify as a submission. That's why it doesn't have a good score. And these tutorials (copy and paste script to be gud at flash) aren't really helping anybody.

VENGEANCE-GGG responds:

At least it'l help my friend. And yes, it was half-assed. That's because I was in a hurry. Maybe not in a hurry to get it onto NG, but in a hurry to make it for my buddy.

Bleh.

Kinda lame. The filesize was nice, but the lack of in-depth teaching (explaining the script and it's functions), graphical crappy-ness, and not explaining levels and stuff gave this a 1. (Reloading wouldn't kill either)

Nice.

I liked the way this played, but the animation style just seems like a "gel" and "Madness" crossover.. kinda lazy-ish, which contrasts to the beauty of the water animation (obviously a lot of effort put forth). The programming was basically seamless and a fun mini-game.. I'd like to see something more in-depth from you, you obviously have the talent. :)

:}

I got to level 10, then got bored with it and quit. No offence. XD Fun game, occupied me for a few minutes.

Well..

It's a good tutorial; at least it isn't for complete novices like the hundreds of "lol how 2 make a button" tutorials. Nicely done, but you could compress your audio better or remove the music altogether.

Not even gonna bother..

..writing a proper review. Tutorials are beginning to crap up Newgrounds, no offense. People have sites like Flashkit, etc, to learn basic stuff like this. Write a tutorial on stuff that people want to learn.

You-People-Are-Nerds responds:

you are completly right..almost every tutorial that comes onto NG now is alrady in the portal somewhere and most likely somewhere in the tutorials at flashkit aswell

Kinda sucks.

The tutorial doesn't teach you much, just a shitload of "Copy & Paste, add your own graphics, and make cool game :} yes now vote 5". Also, the "Character Movement" button doesnt work.

Mixed feelings.

I'm not much for the way the ground is done; hopefully, that will be made into a much more eye-appealing landscape. (Actually, I'd be happy to help you graphically. If you have MSN, you can add me to talk at SickStickFlicks@hotmail. com)Also, more detail to the character(?)'s face is due, looking at a blank head kind of gives a false sense of direction. Along with that, the walk system could be improved by having him follow the mouse as long as the button is held down, giving a 'live' movement. The walls should be faded out to about 50% alpha or even 75%, so you can see your character behind the walls alright. I'm sure there's more to fix, but that's all I can think of. You have a decent game engine, but so far all it looks like is a piece of actionscript from Flashkit or Actionscript.org with retouched graphics. I hope to see the real game out, and actually finished, unlike so many other pointless demos or previews.
